What the heck does
our name mean?
The universe (including this farm) tends towards chaos.
That's a loose translation of the Second Law of Thermodynamics, which states* that spontaneously occurring processes will increase disorder (entropy), and that it takes work** to increase order. One of the humans attached to this farm is fond of physics and also fond of order. Physics always wins.
All of the weeds, electric fence shorts, animal hijinks, weather quirks (to say nothing of climate emergencies), groundhog and bunny rabbit invasions, and life in general are echoes of this. They keep us humble and (mostly) laughing.
If you'd like to learn more about the Second Law of Thermodynamics, Richard Feynman's lectures on entropy (part 1 and part 2) are masterpieces.
* If you know enough to know that even this is still an oversimplification, you also know that talking about heat exchanges, irreversible processes, and mathematical formulas won't sell garlic or compost. This is a farm website, not a physics website. We can talk offline.
** In physics, work is something specific. On a farm, everything is work. This is a farm website, not a physics website, so we won't go further here.
